Do you hear Jesus calling you?

If you are feeling a nudge from Christ, are you ignoring it, responding to it, or pondering it?

In the Synoptic Gospels of Matthew (4:18-22), Mark (1:16-30), and Luke (5:2-11), Jesus calls His disciples to become fishers of men by following Him.

Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon the son of John; you will be called Cephas” (which is translated, Peter). The next day He decided to go to Galilee, and He found Philip. And Jesus said to him, “Follow me.”

John 1:40-43

Becoming a fisher of man meant that Jesus was going to use his disciples to grow the kingdom of God.

But before you can help build the kingdom, you have to decide who you will follow.

In all four Gospels, we see the immediate and complete response of these Apostles. They clearly did not hold back or hesitate in responding to Jesus’ invitation to follow Him!

In today’s world, it seems it is harder to hear the calling of Christ. So much noise, so much controversy, so much hate, and anger, I fear Jesus’ call may be pushed aside for the earthly things of this world…our time here on earth is so fleeting, and the truth is eternity, heaven, and hell are very real.

When you feel the nudge of Jesus, I hope and pray you won’t hesitate to embrace the glorious calling we each have been given. But you have to choose it!
